What makes Disco unique? He has a very charismatic personality. He wants to love and lick everybody. He loves other dogs and never gets enough play time.  He is also very intuitive, seems to know exactly what you are saying. When I first got him he couldn’t even sit, he now knows 10 tricks and is proud to show them off.

Enjoying a beautiful day!

Rescue Story: Shortly after the marriage dissolved, which she got 2 other pit bull’s I had previously rescued, I went to DeKalb County Animal Services determined to adopt. I had a list of 5 dogs I saw online to go interview. This was 2012 before Lifeline took over and it was nothing less than horrific in there. Disco was the 1st dog I came across. He was skin and bones and filthy. We went outside to interview and he sat down in English and said “please get me outta here”. He was on the euthanize list to be put down that week if not adopted.  Needless to say there was no need to check any other dogs. Disco came home with me and never looked back. He did, however, have to get a bath before coming inside the house. Since, he has never gone to the bathroom in the house, not even once.

Disco checking out his new digs!

What is your favorite pastime as a family? Disco must go for a walk daily unless it’s raining.  Our favorite is going to Arabia mountain in Lithonia. There usually aren't a lot of people and once we get past the initial area Disco can be off leash. He is more responsive off leash, never going more than 5 to 10 feet from me and he will look back at me,  like he is making sure he is going the right way. If I do see another dog  he will respond to “Stop” so that I can replace his leash, just in case. Usually turns out to be about 5 to 7 mile hike.

What is life like since you rescued Disco? We pretty much have been inseparable since 2012. He makes me smile everyday. He loves to ride in the truck. He’s been to Nashville, Memphis, Jacksonville and Charlotte. I honestly don’t know what I would do without him.

Photographers Note: I met Steve and Disco at one of Atlanta's Pit Bull walks. I was of course struck by Disco's gorgeous markings and when I learned his name...are you kidding me, how adorable is that? Steve said he named him that because he reminded him of a Disco ball! So of course, I had to recruit them for the project. We met up at Old Fourth Ward park on a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky kind of day! Disco was a great subject, except for when they were posing by the fountain and he felt this was a good time to get some belly rubs. He proceeded to wiggle around on his back for a good 5 minutes while Dad gave him some well deserved belly rubs, then posed for a few shots, then back to the belly rubs. Such a character this sweet boy.
