Sandy with her small humans!
Rescue Story: Sandy was owner surrendered at Atlanta Humane Society. I had lost my dog of 15 yrs in 2016. We had no plans to adopt another dog because I didn’t feel that I was ready. Well we had about an hour to waste, so we decided to go over to the humane society. We were just walking through the kennels and saw this scared dog curled up in a ball. You could tell that she had no idea what was going on and where she was. When we got her in the meeting room, we just fell in love with her. We couldn’t take her home that day because they were so busy with the adoptions that they were having to do them the next buisness day. We went home and got ready for her. When we came back to get her the adoption counselor said she didn’t think that Sandy would be a good fit. We did! We took her home and fell even more in love. When we introduced her to my family they were not happy! They hated pits. They just knew she would eat one of our kids. Never the less she is still here and we love her more and more every day.
Sandy on her way to her forever home!
What is your favorite pastime as a family? Sandy loves to play with the water hose and bubbles. We also love to play chase with her outside!
What is life like since you rescued Sandy? For me it she has been a God send. My anxiety levels are down. I am having less panic attacks. I know that she is more comfortable here. We noticed after a few things that have happened that she might have been abused. So having a home where she is not abused has changed and opened her up.
Photographers Notes: One of my favorite things about doing this project is seeing the wonderful loving homes that these rescue pups end up in, especially those with children. Mainly because so many people think that these dogs should not be in a home with children and often have to work to educate loved ones around them because that myth is so wide spread. Why shouldn't they be loved by children just like any other dog? Seeing Sandy with her two little people is all the proof you need. She just loves those kids and in turn they adore her. Life is just better when you get to grow up with a dog in your family, whatever dog that may be!
A side note, just a couple weeks after this photo shoot Magan let me know they adopted a 2nd pit bull into their family. Good chance we will be seeing this family again in the fall for story #2!
