What makes Piper unique? When I first saw Piper (formerly Rainbow) at the Fulton County Animal Shelter, I immediately fell in love with her. She had the cutest little smile, and she was just so calm. When I asked one of the volunteers to take her out of the crate so I could meet her, they informed me that she had some leg issues which causes her to walk funny. After taking her to our vet, it was determined that she does have some neurological issues which cause her back legs to be weak and also messes with her senses. I felt so bad for her at first, especially after seeing her walk for the first time because she kind of waddles when she walks, but her issue has not stopped her from doing anything. She has gotten a lot stronger since we got her and she’s doing great. She still has a funny little walk, but I love it and I think that makes her unique.

Rollin…rollin…rollin

Rescue Story: I guess I kind of answered that in the previous question, my bad. But long story short, I went to Fulton County Animal Shelter on Black Friday to find another furry friend for our home. Austin and I had talked about getting another dog but I went on that Friday while he was at work and completely forgot to tell him that I adopted another dog until after I signed the adoption papers… whoops. I took Lily with us to meet Piper that day and they seemed to really like each other, plus I had fallen in love with her. So I adopted her and brought her home that following Monday. She and Lily are now best friends and love playing together. Piper has been an absolute blessing in our home, as well as Lily of course. Seeing their sweet smiles when I come home from work every day just makes my days so much better.

What is your favorite pastime as a family? Piper loves to go on walks around our neighborhood or at our local park, and she loves sitting on our front porch with us when the weather is nice out.

What is life like since you rescued Piper? Piper has brought our little family so much joy, especially to Lily. I honestly never thought we would be able to bring another dog into our house because Lily can be reactive with other dogs sometimes, but she and Piper have gotten along so well. They play together all day, every day, and love cuddling together too.

Photographers Note: Kelsey, Austin & Lily volunteered back in March of 2018 for Shine a Light, so when Kelsey reached out again to see about volunteering with their new addition I said OF COURSE! I love how often we get repeat requests when families have added another pibble to their family. You can probably use the old potato chip saying, “You just can’t have one” and replace it with pit bull type dogs!

Kelsey was right, whatever neurological issues Piper may have doesn’t slow her down. She and Lily, showed off their playing skills while I was there and they play hard….little Piper keeping up and holding her own the whole time. She really is the happiest dog, I mean those ears and those sweet eyes….come on! So happy that she landed in such a loving family that will accept her just as she is.

Play Time!
