What makes Jax unique? He has the best demeanor of any dog I have ever met and he listens really well (when his attention isn’t fixed on a squirrel). There is something about his eyes in the way he looks at you, you can honestly just feel his love for you in his eyes.

Jax loves his football!

Rescue Story: We had been wanting a rescue pit for about a year but we knew it would be challenging with an older cat (who is also a diabetic). Ideally, we wanted a dog who just didn’t care about the cat and would ignore him. We came across Two Tailz Rescue via a friend who was a volunteer. We tried to foster one of their adoptable dogs and met some other potentials but in all cases they fixated on the cat, wanting to play or chasing/barking. So we had almost given up hope, thinking we would have to wait until the cat was no longer with us. I reached out to Two Tails one afternoon just to check in on a dog they listed on Facebook. The response was that he was recently adopted but they had a new dog that had not been listed yet. They described him, sent me photos and video of him and in those videos he was showing how well he listened to his foster mom. I told them I wanted to meet/cat test him right away. I picked him up on a Thursday afternoon. He was so skinny you could see his ribs and spine. The rescue said that they had found him wondering around, no collar or microchip and no response to multiple social media postings about him. He was so sweet and gentle and enjoyed his car ride to my house-hanging his head out of the window. When we got home he was a little timid but followed me around everywhere. I setup a baby gate and introduced him to the cat. He didn’t seem to care much about him. When we let him out to sniff the cat he sniffed and just walked on by him. I felt so elated in that moment because he was the first dog who just didn’t care about the cat. He has maintained that demeanor to this day. Jax and Steve live together in harmony, neither bothering the other whatsoever.

First day in his forever home.

What is your favorite pastime as a family? Play time is always fun because he makes me laugh. He will zoomie around the back yard, fetch his favorite football toy or play tug with his rope.

What is life like since you rescued Jax? Since COVID-19 started in March I have been working from home so we have a routine of breakfast, morning playtime, nap times, afternoon playtime and evening walks down the Silver Comet Trail. I used to be one of those people who liked to sleep in and hated exercise. I now feel so accountable to his health and happiness that I get up at 8:30am every day (weekends too) and make sure we have our 2-3 mile walks every evening. He is helping me become a healthier and happier person.

Photographers Note: Just to start out Jax is such a handsome boy. HIs coat is so beautiful especially in the sunshine. For such a young dog who hasn’t been with his family for long he is so well behaved until……the football comes out! :) Ashley had hoped to surprise Frank with a photo of Jax in his Texas Longhorns gear and a football when we had originally scheduled for a weekend shoot . Well our schedules worked out so that we could do this photo shoot during the week and Frank could be in the family shot, so less of a surprise on the football picture but we still got it! Ashley had gone out and purchased a fresh new football for the photo, because he pops the footballs. In evidence of his previous football that was deflated. She said we need to be quick with the photo because once he gets focused on the football it’s all over. She wasn’t kidding!! Thankfully he was a very good boy and didn’t touch the new football until after I got a few shots. Then his focus was only on that football. Even trying to get it away to throw it was a challenge unless there was a trade off, either with the other football or a cookie. Then we discovered one thing that worked…..a squeaker toy. The duck I use to get the pups attention did the trick , he wanted to see what that was all about. We were able to get some good shots of him actually chasing the football and running with it, versus just chewing it! I mean as obsessed as this good boy is with his football seems like there has to be a team that could sign him up!
