What makes Jinx & Bubba unique? Jinx is a loyal and loving companion who would rather seek my attention than that of her own kind. She is my shadow at the dog park and never ever involves herself in any doggy disputes. She is truer than true and a real ambassador for her breed.

Not the wisest dog I have ever had, but absolutely the most lovable. Bubba enjoys a swift run followed by a head first roll into the grass. He never tires of smothering a face with “kithes”, or sitting his 90 lb. ass in your lap.

Sweet Jinx!

Downward Dog Bubba Style

Rescue Stories: A fellow rescue friend (Sandice - Poptart’s Mom) informed me that Jinx (then Indigo) needed an advocate at animal control. Sandice knew bully breeds were and continue to be my favorite. I took Jinx on. She was the longest term resident at the shelter at that point and being a black pit bull, did not bode well for her. Black dogs and bully breeds are very sadly the least likely to be adopted. I took videos and photos and advocated for her on social media. All the while, getting to experience what a lovely dog she was. She wasn’t one to smother you in kisses, or come on too strong. She was distinguished and incredibly gentle. I decided to foster her, and after only about a week or two, decided she could not leave.

Sandice informed me that he had been returned to a rescue org. here in Athens, GA after having spent his formative years in a home in CT. Bubba, then Simba, was confiscated as a puppy and brought to our local animal control. He was rescued and transported to a home in CT., after almost a year of what I have heard was almost constant crate life, he was returned to the Athens based rescue because the adoptive home became pregnant and no longer wanted him. Sandice was extremely worried that he would not get the exposure he needed and asked if I could foster him. The rest is history.

It should be noted that Bubba was not housebroken and as per my vet, probably not given access to water while his humans were away. This resulted in months of overcompensating his water intake to the point where he was urinating oceans of water inside the house. I was so worried that he may have diabetes or some form of urinary infection. With much patience, and lots of initial mopping, Bubba has become my favorite companion. He no longer has any issues with the exception of bad knees due to poor breeding…..that is an entirely different and expensive story! ;-)

What is your favorite pastime as family? Laying in bed with Jinxs’ head on my shoulder. With Bubba, park time is our favorite time. We try to get out at least three times a week for hiking or park socialization.

What is life like since you rescued Jinx & Bubba? I have always said “who needs a partner (husband or wife) when dogs exist??? My dogs bring me more joy and unconditional love than i could ever experience from a human. This oaf (Bubba) brings me more joy and laughter than I could ever express in words. He is the light in every single day.

Photographers Note: My second shoot of the day in Athens, was with this wonderful family. I think Betina’s description of both of them is spot on. Jinx was a little more shy (although I did get some run by kisses) and very camera shy. She was just not having it. Bubba on the other hand just a lovable hunk who was up for any and everything. Bubba’s story just broke my heart but in true dog form, they live in the now and that life is in his rear view. Now he has a pittie sister he adores and a mom that loves & spoils him. Not too shabby for a pup who grew up in a crate. Sadly Jinx’s story is all too common and one we have discussed before related to black dogs, and black pitties especially. I had such a blast with these volunteers, lots of laughter trying to get these two to cooperate. Then again, isn’t that one of the best parts of having a dog companion their ability to make you laugh!
