5 of the best words/phrases that describe Autumn:
- Bouncy
- Squirrel Hunter
- Fearless Explorer
- Hungry (always looking for treats)
- Backseat driver
What makes Autumn unique? Autumn loves to go under people's legs when they are sitting on the couch or standing, or doing anything really. She is also a total backseat driver. Except when we are driving at a constant speed on the highway. Then she is asleep because she knows mommy has it under control.
Squirrel Hunter
Rescue Story: About 5 years ago, I was browsing Petfinder.com and found Autumn. She had a pink nose just like the childhood dog I grew up with so I couldn't resist going to meet her. When I visited the Dekalb Animal Shelter , the attendant opened her crate; both she and her brother bolted out of their pen and down the hallway. She's always had a ton of energy and thirst for exploration! I hung out with her in the outdoor area for a half hour while she chewed on a stick and I knew she would be coming home with me. After filling out her paperwork and paying the adoption fees, we were on our way home!
Autumn's Freedom Ride! You gotta love that wink!
What is your favorite pastime as a family? Autumn really loves to walk on the Beltline and sniff everything. When it's warmer outside, we walk the Eastside trail every day. She really loves to pause and sniff something and then bolt into a run, yanking her unsuspecting parent's arm.
We as crazy dog parents like to change the lyrics to famous songs to make them about Autumn. Thanks to her human father's unmatched guitar talent, we can probably record our own Autumn Tribute Album. Songs such as: Rosalita (Bark Loud Tonight) - Bruce Springsteen; Brown/White Dog - Led Zeppelin; How She's Going to Bark - Third Eye Blind; Where the Squirrels Don't Stay - Drive By Truckers; Sweet Brown Girl - The Rolling Stones; and on and on....
What is life like since you rescued Autumn? (for both her and you) True dog lovers/owners understand and expect their entire lives to change. We're crazy about making sure that Autumn has the best life possible. She has a dog walker from DIOGI Pet Services every weekday and she never misses one of her four daily walks. We will race home from wherever we are to make sure she doesn't have to wait too long to use the bathroom. We look specifically for dog-friendly stores and restaurants to visit so she can go for bye-byes in the car and explore new places. Our apartment and furniture are both decorated brown and white for obvious reasons. Our lives are definitely more regimented than before Autumn, but we wouldn't change a thing. There is nothing like coming home from work and seeing that big fleshy nose and wiggle butt greeting you at the door.
Photographers Note: Autumn is such a sweet girl and as we were getting setup in Old 4th Ward Park, one of her buddies from their complex came over (another pit mix) and they romped and played while we finished the setup. Great way to drain a little energy for the photo subject, but honestly she didn't need it. She was very cooperative. Also, I think Dave and Jacklyn need to record one or two of those songs and post them on our Facebook page as a follow up to their story. I know I would like to hear one!
