5 words/phrases that best describe Copper:

  1. Smart
  2. Sweet
  3. Gorgeous
  4. Loyal
  5. Stubborn

What makes Copper unique? Copper can do a ton of tricks (sit, stay, speak, shake, high five, beg, play dead, lay down, beat it) but what makes her special is her ability to know when I need a snuggle or a smooch. She snores like a man and takes up the sofa/bed like she owns it (let's be honest, she does!) and can look so sad that you have to give her a treat. (she has me wrapped around her paw!)

Copper in one of her favorite spots!!

Rescue Story: I was working in West Midtown at a home decor store when I decided to get a dog. I had never had a dog before and I was so excited! I knew it would be a pit bull or a pit mix because my best friend at the time had a pit/boxer and I loved him to pieces. I started looking at Fulton County Animal Services but one day,  my customer came in and asked if I knew of anyone looking for a dog. I said I was! She and her daughter rescued Copper (she named her Pinky) off of Peachtree Industrial Blvd when she was 6 months old. It took them over 45 minutes to catch her. She was skinny and a bit scabby.  She didn't seem physically abused but definitely neglected or on the streets for a bit.  My customer then house trained her  and took care of her for a couple months, even taking her to their busy china shop in Miami Circle. I went to see her for the first time at their shop and there she was just hanging out with baby strollers and people, she couldn't care less. I fell in love then and there and took her home that day.

First day home!

What is your favorite pastime with Copper? We walk everyday for 45-60 minutes. She loves her walks! I love snuggling with her on the sofa and having her picture professionally taken every Halloween.

What is life like since you rescued Copper? Life is so much more fabulous with Copper. Unconditional love and knowing she depends on me for her welfare has made me a better a person. I feel like I am more compassionate  and understanding, not as selfish as I was before I was lucky enough to get her. I will say that as she gets older I am more emotional  and am afraid what will happen when she is gone. I depend on her as much as she depends on me.

Photographers Note: It was such a pleasure meeting this sweet senior girl. She was such a trooper during the photo shoot but was definitely happiest on her perch on the couch! In some of the locations, I was sitting on the floor and she would let me take a few shots and then get up and slowly walk over to give me a kiss. I think it may have been a ploy to get me to stop taking pictures, but I will take it none the less! I should add when Traci mentions having Copper's picture taken for Halloween, these are some serious costumes. Everything from Wonder Woman to a Warrior Princess...so adorable!
