Stick’s are Life!
Rescue Story: I (Raj) had just moved from Austin to Houston and did not really know too many people. Since I had been thinking of getting a dog for a while, it seemed to be the right time and I was looking at available pups with Friends for Life, a local rescue. I was looking for a black, medium sized dog that was young but not a puppy. Woodson was found as a stray in the parking lot of a NE Houston school. A teacher was going home and he just came up to her and hopped in the car. He was obviously malnourished She and her husband fostered him for about 10 days when I came across his profile and went to meet him at the shelter. He came into the room and the first thing he did was leap into my lap like he had known me for years.
Woodson ready to head to his forever home!
What is your favorite pastime as a family? One of our favorite pastimes is to go to walk the Beltline on a sunny day. Woodson loves meeting other dogs along the way and seeing all the "wildlife" when we end up at Piedmont Park. His favorite part of the walk is of course stopping by King of Pips for a Pupsicle.
What is life like since you rescued Woodson? Woodson has been an amazing dog. From Day 1 he has fit our family like a glove. I adopted him when I was a single and had just moved to Houston in 2015. He had front row seat to everything that's happened since: 5 moves, meeting my wife and getting married, helping us cope w the loss of my dad, moving to a new house and now welcoming a little brother into the world. Through it all he has always been by our side wagging his tail and eagerly awaiting the next adventure.

Photographers Note: When I met up with Raj, Sarah & Woodson the sun was finally shining after several rainy days. First thing I noticed was his shiny black coat just gleaming in the sunshine. Then we got to the business of photo taking and Woodson was a pro. Posed perfectly when asked, gave up the adorable head tilt when needed and had a blast playing with sticks his Dad would locate for him for some action shots. Woodson is the definition of a family member going through all of the life events with his family and now taking on the role of big brother. I can already see all the things he will teach his brother…how to pick the perfect stick, the use of sad puppy eyes when you want to get your way and the value of a good nap. Can’t wait to see what kinds of adventures Woodson and his baby brother get into!
